Company Timeline 1956The beginning of Homewood Disposal (then called Homewood Scavenger). With a fleet of just three trucks, we picked up garbage from residents in Homewood. Our first office stood behind a men’s clothing store on Dixie Highway in Homewood, IL. 1960'sJoining Forces. In conjunction with another local company, Star Disposal, out of Park Forest, IL we offer our first roll-off dumpsters. This is the first of a number of companies that Homewood will merge with over the years (others include, Nuway Disposal, Tinley Park Disposal, A&J Disposal, Sexton Disposal, Kankakee Disposal, Service Sanitation, Arrowaste and most recently, Heartland Disposal). 1970'sWe’ve Moved! With a growing fleet and staff, we move into a bigger space a few blocks away in East Hazel Crest, IL. Our service area has now grown to include Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kankakee, and Will Counties. 1980'sLet’s Build. Now servicing many rapidly growing communities, it is necessary for us to operate our own transfer station. This was a huge step for us. When it was completed, it allowed us to dump our trucks at our own facility. 1990'sHow else can we help you? Our list of services has tripled since our beginning. In 1990 we introduced our first curbside recycling program in the Village of Homewood. 1994 brought the start of our Special Hauling division, and in 1996 we started our Street and Parking Lot Sweeping program. 2000Going Green in a Big Way! This year we installed our state-of-the art recycling facility. This facility allows us to sort recyclable material by type and prepare it for the market. 2001This year, Homewood Disposal partnered with Indiana portable restroom company, Service Sanitation, Inc. Service Sanitation was already a successful restroom company servicing the Chicagoland area. This made for a great addition to our list of services. 2005Home Sweet Homewood. After operating out of East Hazel Crest, IL for more than 30 years, we made the move back to Homewood with the construction of our corporate headquarters. 2008Here to Stay. We now have over 500 employees and a fleet of 200 trucks to service our customers. Homewood Disposal is proud of its history and ability to remain in the forefront of this increasingly complex industry. All of this has been made possible by the integrity and hard work of the high quality individuals that make up the Homewood Disposal family of employees. |
